Mladá Boleslav, April 17th, 2011 – Large crowds at the Open House Day of ŠKODA in Mladá Boleslav: more than 75,000 visitors from near and far were hosted at the parent plant of the Czech automobile manufacturer on April 16th, 2011. For the first time in six years, the company opened its gates for the general public on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its association with Volkswagen. Besides the glimpse behind the scenes of automobile manufacture, an attractive support program entertained adult and young guests alike. The great number of children attending the event was particularly excited and experienced pure action and entertainment. On the part of ŠKODA, the guests were welcomed by the chairman of the board, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, and the board member for human resources, Bohdan Wojnar, as well as the chairman of the works council, Jaroslav Povšík.

"There was a real onrush of visitors. We are extremely happy about the great interest in our company. It shows how many friends and fans the brand enjoys in the Czech Republic. During the past years, our customers and fans have made ŠKODA to what we are today: a modern, dynamic, and internationally successful company. For that, we want to give thanks in a special way. The 20th anniversary of the association with Volkswagen in particular is an ideal occasion for that," emphasized the head of ŠKODA, Winfried Vahland.

Bohdan Wojnar, the board member for human resources, added: "This was a fantastic day for ŠKODA and for all the guests. A special "Thank you" goes to our more than 700 colleagues, who voluntarily invested many hours of their leisure time in the preparation and organization of this day. This commitment shows once again the special spirit of ŠKODA. We would also like to thank the officials in Mladá Boleslav and Kosmonosy, without whose participation and active cooperation this event could not have taken place." Thus, visitors in both towns were able to use both the public transportation as well as the public parking facilities without charge.

A first-rate support program awaited the guests. The biggest attraction was the performance of "ABBA THE SHOW", accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestra from London. Also taking part was the local children's choir "Dalovické sluníčko". Other popular music acts from the Czech Republic such as Chinaski, MIG 21, DJ Lucca, En. Dru, Monkey Business, or Peneři strýčka Homeboye excited the audience as well.

For the young guests – about a third of all attendees - ŠKODA has specifically reserved one half of the largest accessible production hall in the plant. Within a children's theme park, the young guests experienced numerous attractions such as a puppet theater or the living mascot Škodováček distributing sweets. Parents with small babies were able to retreat to a nursing area.
