Mladá Boleslav/Shanghai, June 30th, 2011 – ŠKODA continues to step on the accelerator in its largest sales market China. With more than 112,000 vehicles sold in the first half of 2011, the brand reached a new half-year sales record in the Chinese market. Moreover, the manufacturer has set the course for future growth: Beginning in 2013, ŠKODA and Shanghai Volkswagen will jointly produce the new compact sedan in China and thus increase the number of the locally manufactured model series to five. With the new model, ŠKODA will further strengthen the successful development of the brand in China. Overall, ŠKODA has already sold more than half a million vehicles there since it entered the market in 2007.

"China plays a central role for the global growth of ŠKODA," emphasizes the chairman of the board of ŠKODA, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. "Until 2018, we want to at least double our worldwide sales to more than 1.5 million units per year. The growth market China provides a crucial contribution toward this effort. We have established an excellent position for ourselves in this country for the coming years and will continue to strengthen our activities. Following the Fabia, Octavia, Superb, and the Yeti, our new compact sedan will be our brand's fifth vehicle overall to be manufactured in China. We are convinced that the new car will win over the hearts of the Chinese customers. It perfectly reflects our claim to be "Simply Clever"."

ŠKODA has been present on the Chinese market since 2007. The first model of the manufacturer produced in China was the Octavia (Octavia Mingrui) in the middle of 2007. At the end of 2008, the Fabia (Fabia Jingrui) was added. Since 2009, Shanghai Volkswagen has been building the ŠKODA flag ship Superb (Superb Haorui) as the third model for the Chinese market. And at the end of 2010, the license agreement for the production of the Yeti as the fourth ŠKODA model produced in China was signed.
