Mladá Boleslav, December 15th, 2011 – ŠKODA has ceremonially started the construction of its new 'Lean Center' in Mladá Boleslav. Upon completion, the center will be a one-of-a-kind training facility serving both the employees of the company as well as suppliers from all over the world. One of the focal points of future training sessions at the 'Lean Center' will be the optimization and/or the further streamlining of the ŠKODA operating procedures in production and management.

At the center, the ŠKODA employees and suppliers of the Czech car manufacturer will learn the basic principles and methods of a lean corporate structure, the rules for successful team work, or the perfect management of an assembly line. The objective of the training lies in a more effective exploitation of resources and the optimal arrangement of workflows. This will lead to a further increase of the company's productivity.

"Until 2018, ŠKODA would like to double its sales to around 1.5 million vehicles per year. To reach this goal, the know-how of its employees is crucial," Bohdan Wojnar, the board member for Human Resources, said in his comments on the decision for the construction of the center. The manufacturer will invest around 5.3 million EUR.

"Regarding our growth strategy, we must ensure that the structures and processes in production and management will remain simple and lean," Wojnar continued to explain. The new 'Lean Center' will make a critical contribution in this regard. "It is the core of our internal project 'Lean Company'. We will implement optimization potentials, which are to be developed at the Lean Center in the future, in production as well as in management," the ŠKODA board member for Human Resources added.

The new ŠKODA 'Lean Center' will be the only training facility of its kind in the Czech Republic. The training classrooms, serving the ŠKODA training areas of assembly, car body construction, 'lean' management, and energy saving, among others, will be spread out over four floors and an area of 5,700 square meters. The theoretical and practical training sessions shall be conducted by certified trainers of the Volkswagen Group.
